You would think a city named Winner would be producing “winners” in every capacity but that is not the case. The city in South Dakota was named Winner to establish the small town along the railroad back in 1909. Well now the city can live up to its name because one lucky winner has hit the $232 Million Powerball lottery jackpot.

The city only has three thousand residents so word traveled fast that someone from Winner hit the large jackpot. Thursday afternoon the lucky winner contacted lottery officials to claim their prize. Norm Lingle of the South Dakota Lottery stated that the caller provided details that only the winner would know so they are most certain that the person is the lucky winner.

The winners name will not be released until the ticket has been validated and the prize is called in an official capacity. So in the meantime the small town can only wonder who the lucky winner is. The winner has one hundred and eighty days to claim the prize.
