A soldier stationed at Fort Knox almost threw away a lottery ticket worth a total of 800,000 dollars. It could be a wise decision to check your trash can for accidentally thrown away lottery tickets.

The Fort Knox soldier told Kentucky Lottery officials that he had thrown the lottery ticket prior to the lottery draws, but that a voice said to him that he should look through the trash to make sure that the lottery ticket was just a blank ticket.

He had purchased the ticket from the August 16 Powerball drawing and took home the check for $552,000 after taxes, according to lottery officials.
