Iowa Man Wins $10,000 Playing Powerball
Paul Simonsen, from Iowa, has won $10,000 from a Powerball drawing this past Saturday. Simonsen bought his ticket at the Kum & Go in Walnut. He claimed his prize on Tuesday of this week at the Iowa Lottery’s regional office in Council Bluffs.Last Saturday’s Powerball was worth $20 million and the numbers were 1-4-26-32-39 and Powerball 18. The Power Play multiplier was the number five. Simonsen managed to match four of the first five numbers and the Powerball to win the $10,000 prize. Though he won a good deal, if Simonsen has choose to add the Power Play to his ticket he would have won $50,000.
The cost to per play is one dollar and Players can increase their prizes up to five times with the Power Play, except for the jackpot. Right before the Powerball numbers are drawn the Power Play wheel is spun. The numbers 2 through 5 are listed on the wheel and whichever number the wheel lands on that is the amount the prize will be multiplied, if that number is drawn.
The lottery in Iowa started in 1985 and over $2.2 billion has been given away in prizes and the lottery has raised over $1.1 billion for state programs. This is a large sum of money for the state to use to its benefit.
