The World’s Biggest Lottery Awards 2.2 Million Euros
In Madrid, Spain the world’s largest lottery titled “El Gordo” gave away 2.2 billion Euros in prizes on Saturday. The title of the lottery is Spanish for “The Fat One” and was created for many people to win instead of one big winner. 3 million Euros was the top prize this year and it went to the series of tickets that held the number 6,381.
Tickets are sold in a series of ten and those who chose to pay 200 Euros would be eligible for the top prize. 185 series of tickets held the winning number. Nava is the town where the majority of winning tickets were bought. There were also winners in the town of Sort. It has become known as the lucky town and many people have won there. It has become a popular place to buy tickets with increased chances of winning.
The winning numbers and the amount won is sung by two children from Madrid’s San Ildefonso school who take turns singing the numbers. Spain spent 2.87 billion Euros to create the lottery which was over 5% larger than last year. Most citizens in Spain like to pick numbers that match dates that are significant in their lives. This year however there were not any such numbers.
